Project Prospectus

Research Question & Foundation Question:
Why do SLP's work with Parkinson's disease patients?
1. What is Parkinson’s disease?
2. How is the voice quality effected?
3. How can Parkinson's disease affect swallowing?
4. What are some of the speech impairments that
are related to Parkinson's disease?
5. What is our main goal when working with these
patients?

Tentative Point:
By doing this research project, I am trying to become more aware of how patients with Parkinson’s disease develop a speech problem. Since I may be working with people with Parkinson’s disease, this information will be very helpful for me and allow me to understand more about the speech and the swallowing problems they may encounter.

Genres I plan to include:
Webliography—clinician voice
Power point presentation—clinician voice
Poem—client voice
Interview transcription—clinician voice
Journal entry—client’s family voice
Letter to daughter—clinician voice
Email exchange—client voice

How I plan to integrate:
I plan to use various voice’s to provide a combination of viewpoints. This will show how Parkinson’s disease affects everyone. I think I may use the email exchange to integrate my genres. In the email exchange I can have various patients talking about their lives and the activities involved in their lives.
